Do you worry constantly?
Do you feel uneasy often?
Are you overly concerned about situations or problems?
Do you feel that you have to ‘worry enough’ to prevent bad things from happening?

What happens when I worry too much?

Excessive worrying can lead to high levels of anxiety, even panic, during which the ‘fight or flight’ response is evoked through the release of stress hormones. When released into the bloodstream, these hormones cause many changes to occur in your body including:

  • Racing heart rate
  • Breathing too fast (hyperventilating)
  • Paling or flushing or both
  • Slowing down or stopping of the digestive system
  • Constriction of blood vessels
  • Shaking
  • Trembling
  • Sweating
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Nausea
  • Fear of dying
  • Fear that you are going mad

As a result of the above dramatic changes, a person experiencing a panic attack often feels as if they are actually dying or going mad.

As suggested by the old adage “worried sick”, the high levels of anxiety generated by excessive worry can lead to physical and mental problems including digestive problems (for example, Irritable Bowel Syndrome), ulcers, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, autoimmune diseases, eczema, pain, depression.

Excessive worry attacks all aspects of our lives, interfering with our appetites, relationships, lifestyle, sleep, as well as performance within our jobs. It can also make us seek relief through harmful lifestyle habits such as overeating, smoking, using drugs and alcohol.

How Hypnotherapy and NLP can help you get rid of your worry

Hypnotherapy and NLP are extremely effective methods of dealing with excessive worry. Hypnotherapy can reprogramme the subconscious mind to respond differently to situations, emotions and places that act as triggers for worry and panic, preventing panic attacks from occurring.

NLP is an effective method for reframing that part of the mind responsible for your worry to behave in a more beneficial way.

What will I expect in a typical hypnotherapy session dealing with worry?

During the first session we will explore certain aspects of your lifestyle (for example: diet, exercise, sleep patterns), to determine whether there are any barriers to emotional and physical health. I will help you understand that you have the resources to achieve what you desire. You will learn relaxation and breathing techniques to help you relax and manage your worry more effectively.

In subsequent sessions we will explore techniques targeted to eliminate worry. You will learn how to break the cycle of worry before it leads to anxiety and panic. You will learn how to be more mindful of thoughts that involve worry, and how to let go of these. You will also learn how to live in the moment, and not let anxieties about the past or worries about the future affect you anymore.
